The Mission:

Design a flexible space that could grow and change with its two adolescent female occupants.

The Challenges:

A long, narrow room with sloped ceilings, one West facing dormer window, a nice sized bath and large walk-in closet, located on the second floor of in a 1904 Queen Anne home. The spaces needed to function for personal care, dressing, sleep, study and play.

The Solution: Inspired by French Breton stripes, pink lipstick and Sister Parrish’s classic “Serendipity” wall-covering, I started with a soft white base. Working long distance with a graphic artist, I re-imagined the pattern on a large scale in a removable vinyl material. Over the course of two days, the pattern came to life by following the installation plan for a feature wall plotted out well in advance. Hints of the pattern continue into the dormer and onto the closet walls. Blue and white stripes adorn drapery and pillows, with hot pink for an accent. The closet is designed for sharing the Outfit of the Day (#OOTD), the window seat offers a place to curl up with a book or play a game, and an antique station-master’s desk became the perfect study spot. Durable fabrics on high quality furniture insure longevity and the affordable, removable wall treatment allows for an epic change of style on a whim.
