The Mission:

Unite five distinctly different spaces while creating a cohesive design, within the voluminous Master Suite of a new, mountain-style house in the city.

The Challenges:

This house was a true collaboration between architect J. Carson Looney of Looney, Ricks, Kiss, builder Brady Fry of Fry Classic Construction, lead designer Kimberly Kelly of K7 Interiors and 17 fellow alumni of my alma mater, O’More College of Design, for the 2017 O’More Designer Show House.  My mission was to add the finishing touches to the wet bar, laundry, gallery, water closet, and bathing areas with the expansive 2nd floor Master Suite. The bedroom and bath are flooded with natural light, while the rooms that divide them are not, so tying the spaces together was essential.

The Solution:

Starting with a base of light hardwood and jet black tile floors, gray and white marble tile in the shower, and white quartz countertops throughout, I chose a gradient color palette for the windowless rooms, transitioning from light to dark and back to light, in order to emphasize the sweeping views in the master bath. Lighting, art and accessories were paramount for adding color and style to the spaces. Since the ceiling height dropped to 8 feet in the wet bar, I chose to run the antiqued mirror tile vertically, adding both visual height and reflectivity in an otherwise dark spot. In the laundry room, the tile backsplash was installed vertically as a compliment to the pattern in the wallpaper. Because the house was open to the public during October and November, I chose a palette of Fall colors to accent warmth (it has heated floors!), and to add a cozy feel to the spaces. It was a joy to work on this project with such a great group of designers and so many generous sponsors. Most of all, it was surprising and delightful to catch up with old friends, make a lot of new ones, and spend time hanging out in the Master Suite with our design loving patrons!
